This is interesting because it lays out the “conservative” versus “Republican” mindset in young people today and how the new fringe GOP isn’t necessarily mobilizing young, smart members of the party. Also, of special interest to Columbia students, since they might recognize some of the sources that my awesome co-intern Alana interviewed for the piece.

“I quickly learned to stop picking up my house phone, never answer the doorbell, and always, always look around before walking home from the bus stop. Debt collectors, REPO men, and eviction officials were everywhere, waiting to take possession of our house and our cars. This was an exhausting process for me, trying to study for AP Biology with all the lights off while people from the car dealership shone flashlights through the windows and pounded on our doors roaring “Mr. Durrani! We’re here about your cars. Come out immediately, we know you’re in there!” Those tremendous voices sent chills down my spine at first, but one could say I eventually grew used to it.”

With passion as intense as her photos, budding photographer Ashley Jordan Gordon recently caught the attention of London’s National Portrait Gallery with her image called, “Girl on Kingsland Road.” Shot at an East End music festival (pictured above), the 24-year-old caught the “convergence of the roiling crowd” as well as a fleeting moment of mutual awareness with her subject.

That column made me realize that Joe Lieberman is to the senate what Meghan McCain is to The Daily Beast.

If I want to hear the liberal bias, I will turn on MSNBC. If I want to hear conservative dogma, I will turn on Fox. But where do people go to listen to the Joe Liebermans of the world? Where can we hear voices that dare to cross party lines, think outside the box, and say what they truly believe?
